F1 news: Top three Formula 1 teams to watch in the 2025 season

The 2025 Formula 1 season is just around the corner, with the first Grand Prix weekend to kick off on the 14th of March.

The season opener will be the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne, before heading to Shanghai the following week for the Chinese Grand Prix.

After an exciting and refreshing year full of competition, Sports News Blitz writer Harrison Pearce takes a closer look at three exciting Formula 1 teams to watch in 2025.

Aston Martin

Aston Martin goes into the new Formula 1 campaign with the same two-driver partnership, Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso for the third year running.

After consistently battling it in the midfield last season, the Silverstone-based team will be hoping to break into the top five standings on the table.

One key advantage heading into the new season is the addition of Adrian Newey to their technical team.

Known for his success at Red Bull, where he played a pivotal role in designing championship-winning cars, Newey will be responsible for developing the car for the upcoming season.

His wealth of experience, combined with the high expectations placed on the team, will undoubtedly provide fans with confidence that they are capable of competing at the very top of the standings.

Lance Stroll, a Canadian F1 driver, made his debut in 2017 under the ownership of his father, Lawrence Stroll.

Known for his focus and determination, Stroll has a crucial opportunity to prove himself in what could be a defining year for his career at Aston Martin.

Speculation surrounding a potential move for Red Bull superstar Max Verstappen has fueled rumours that Stroll's future at Aston Martin may be uncertain, especially if he fails to improve his performances in the coming season.

Even if Newey is unable to convince Verstappen to join, it’s likely that Aston Martin already has a backup plan, with another driver potentially ready to partner two-time world champion Fernando Alonso.

Alpine

Alpine concluded the 2024 season in spectacular fashion, securing a double podium at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, with Esteban Ocon finishing second and Pierre Gasly taking third, behind Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen.

This impressive result lifted Alpine from ninth to sixth in the Constructors' Championship, ahead of Haas, RB, and Williams.

In June 2024, Ocon announced he would be leaving Alpine to join the American team, Haas, for the 2025 season.

After five years with Alpine, during which he raced in every event since the team's rebranding in 2021, the Frenchman secured three podiums and one victory.

The rise of fellow Frenchman Pierre Gasly marked the end of Ocon’s tenure at Alpine, with rookie Jack Doohan stepping in to replace him as early as the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The upcoming season will be intriguing, as Ocon and Gasly, now with different teams, could develop a mini-rivalry, with both drivers possessing similar talent and competitive potential in their new roles

Ferrari

Ferrari have been one of the standout teams in Formula 1 in recent years, thanks to the strong partnership between Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.

The two drivers have been competing for the top spot, securing a combined five race wins.

This marked a major improvement for Ferrari, with their highest number of victories since 2018, alongside a serious push for the Constructors' Championship.

At the start of 2024, Ferrari announced that Lewis Hamilton would be joining the Italian team for the 2025 season, adding to their rich history of legendary drivers.

Sainz will be making way for him as he is set to race for Williams ahead of the new campaign.

Ferrari will be a team to watch next season, as the dynamics between two influential drivers could play a crucial role in their success.

The key challenge will be whether they can form a strong partnership without letting egos clash, as both will be vying for the number one spot.

This move has the potential to either elevate Ferrari to new heights or backfire dramatically, depending on how quickly the team adapts, especially after Sainz outshone Leclerc in some races.

Regardless of the outcome, Ferrari will remain a team to keep a close eye on.
