French Open news: Coco Gauff is a quarter-finalist at Roland Garros - five years in a row
Coco Gauff is set to go up against fellow American, Madison Keys in her fifth quarter-final in five years.
The current second seed reached her first Grand Slam singles final back in the 2022 French Open, where she lost the title to Iga Swiatek in straight sets.
Sports News Blitz writer Vanely Barumire comments on the intriguing stories coming out of the WTA French Open.
Gauff’s resurgence
Guaff is in great form, having won all of her matches in straight sets at this year’s event thus far.
She is one of the title contenders, but has to get past rival Madison Keys, who has beaten Guaff in three out of their five meetings.
The two Americans will face each other on Wednesday afternoon.
A true French underdog
No good tournament is complete without an underdog.
And in Roland Garros style, nothing is more poetic than a French underdog.
“I wouldn’t have believed it if you told me that two weeks ago,” said Lois Boisson in her post-match press conference after defeating world No.3, Jessica Pegula.
With a pre-tournament ranking of No. 361, Boisson has taken this year’s French Open by storm.

The French star stunned tennis fans when she claimed victory over the 2024 US Open finalist in a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win.
As a result, Boissin has moved up 241 positions in the WTA live rankings up to 120.
Boisson will be looking to cause more upsets as she’s set to face a tough test in this season’s Indian Wells champion, Mirra Andreeva.
Don’t count Swiatek out
Seemingly out by the end of the first set, Iga Swiatek sealed her place in the quarter-finals in a comeback victory against No.11 ranked Elena Rybakina.
The Polish tennis player is among the favourites to win the tournament, but a shaky start in the fourth round almost saw her time in Paris cut short.
Swiatek was able to recover from a set down to win 1-6,6-3,7-5 in a match that proved to be more difficult than anticipated.
The former world No.1 will play Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in the quarter-final.
