Golf betting tips: Memorial Tournament – Robert MacIntyre to thrive at tricky Muirfield Village

The PGA Tour heads to Ohio this week for the 2025 edition of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

Muirfield Village is a classic course where ball-strikers and short-game specialists can go toe-to-toe across the four rounds.

Each hole tends to get trickier the closer you get to the green, so a fine-tuned approach game is crucial to putting a plate in contention at the Ohio course.

Here, Sports News Blitz writer Sam Condy breaks down four of his favourite picks ahead of the action.

Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas has been in great form recently, with three runner-up finishes this season and a win.

One of those second-place finishes came at the Valspar, a course offering a similar feel to Muirfield Village.

Thomas has consistently played well at other similar venues too, with five top-5s at East Lake and three top-10s at TPC River Highlands.

The only slight concern is his track record on bentgrass greens, where he’s had some struggles.

That said, he’s still ranked 17th for Strokes Gained: Putting, so it’s hardly a deal-breaker.

Scottie Scheffler

Normally, we are against betting on Scottie Scheffler, largely due to his continuously wafer-thin odds.

However, Rory McIlroy is absent this week and ‘Mr Consistent’ looks in a league of his own as of late.

Scheffler has historically performed well at this tournament, finishing third (2021), third (2023), and first (2024) in previous years.

The world number one may have endured a slow start to the season, but he is certainly firing on all cylinders now, and there is little sign of him slowing down anytime soon.

Robert MacIntyre

MacIntyre was in phenomenal form at last week’s Charles Schwab Challenge, finishing sixth while ranking ninth in SG: Approach and fifth in Greens in Regulation.

Over his last 36 rounds, he’s also ninth for SG: Off the Tee, a strong sign heading into a demanding test like the Memorial.

The Scot seems to thrive on difficult courses; he finished eighth at last year's PGA Championship at Valhalla and has numerous impressive finishes when the big names appear to falter.

It may be his debut at Muirfield Village, but ‘Bobby Mac’ has all the tools to put on a glittering display.

Shane Lowry

Shane Lowry suffered a tough finish at the Truist Championship, slipping to a tie for second after leading into the final round, and then missed the cut at the PGA Championship.

Despite a lapse in form in an otherwise stellar 2025 campaign, the Irishman's polished iron play – ranking sixth in SG: Approach – gives him a solid platform to contend at Muirfield Village.

Add in his strong short game, with top-20 rankings in both scrambling and SG: Around the Green, and Lowry looks well-equipped to mount a serious challenge this week.

Best odds: 33/1 (6EW, 1/5) with Paddy Power
