NBA betting tips: Mavericks to ruin Pistons homecoming, Bucks to compound Spurs misery

NBA action continues this weekend with a number of high-profile games on the cards.

Given some luck – and not a little betting nous – we will be able to line our pockets with a few extra dollars on the back of a fruitful round of games on Friday.

To get things started tonight, the Dallas Mavericks travel to the Detroit Pistons and the San Antonio Spurs welcome the Milwaukee Bucks to town.

Sports News Blitz tipster George Dempsey offers his top picks ahead of the excitement.

Dallas Mavericks at Detroit Pistons

Having lost the last four matches of a challenging five-game road trip, the Pistons head back to Little Caesars Arena in search of home comforts and a return to form.

Yet, while there is no doubt that periods away from home are challenging, oftentimes the return to familiar territory turns out to be a banana peel.

It is only natural that 10 days away from loved ones can cause players to drop their guard and have their attention drift away from basketball.

At the same time, we know that a team’s biggest drop-off while on the road typically comes between the first and second games, and that is exactly where the Mavericks find themselves this evening.

They come in fresh off a 130-108 win over the Washington Wizards in Dallas and a subsequent 137-136 victory at the New Orleans Pelicans.

Since 2018, NBA teams who have won back-to-back games with scores of 130+ points have covered the spread 65% of the time in their next game.

The Mavericks have also been surprisingly potent without star player Luka Doncic, which is unlikely to continue in the long run but can probably be extended to one more performance.

Detroit have come on leaps and bounds since last season, but they are being overvalued at times – they are 5-8ATS as a favourite and just 2-6ATS as a home favourite.

In fact, they were starting to slump even before their road trip, going 1-4ATS in their last five contests at home.

They have also dropped 13 of 15 meetings against teams from the Southwest Division.

Suggested bet: Dallas Mavericks +1.5

Milwaukee Bucks at San Antonio Spurs

Next up, we head to San Antonio, where the Spurs play host to the Bucks.

This young and talented team has now lost eight of their last 10 games, and losing is starting to become a habit unfortunately.

The Bucks, on the other hand, have won nine of their last 12 games as they continue to build up their record after a terrible 2-8 start to the season.

Milwaukee have a 70% win percentage since that rocky opening, and they should be highly motivated to round off their four-game road trip with a win in Texas.

They were disappointing last time out in a 125-112 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, but two days of rest plus the anticipation of returning home should assist with a positive bounce.

Meanwhile, the Spurs are 13-16ATS as an underdog this season and 5-9ATS on home court.

In addition, back-to-back games in Paris against the Indiana Pacers might just prove to have been an unwelcome disruption ahead of a clash with the in-form the Bucks.

Suggested bet: Milwaukee Bucks -3
